VBA NAMES KIM VELK NEXT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Board of Managers of the Vermont Bar Association voted at their January 16 meeting to offer the Executive Director position to Kim Velk, Esq.
The decision comes following a search that began last June when the current ED, Bob Paolini, announced his plans to retire. Velk has been the director of education and communications at the VBA since March 2022. She will commence her ED duties in February.
“It has been my privilege and my pleasure to work at the VBA these last few years, “Velk said. “I am grateful and humbled by the decision of Board of Managers to entrust me with this important position. I am especially grateful to Bob, who has been a wonderful mentor and example, and to the fantastic staff of the VBA.
Bob plans to remain at the VBA until the end of current legislative session in May to advance the VBA’s legislative agenda and continue training his successor.
Vermont Bar Association President Joshua Diamond said, “ let me convey my thanks and appreciation to Bob Paolini for his many years of service to the Vermont Bar Association, the legal profession, and the communities we serve. We look forward to having Kim Velk as our next Executive Director. Her experience as a seasoned attorney, leader within the bar, and dedication to our profession is a recipe for success to help the Vermont Bar Association fulfill its mission.
“During my 30 year career as an attorney in Vermont I think I’ve been in every courtroom in the state,” Velk said. “I don’t know everyone in the system, of course, but I’m looking forward to reaching out to all the VBA’s constituents and to carrying forward the VBA’s 150-year-old mission to serve the profession and the public.
Velk is married and has two children in their 20s.
