The Vermont judiciary sent a memo yesterday (July 8, 2025) to (among other things) remind attorneys to stay tuned for information concerning the transition from Webex to Zoom for remote hearings. That change is coming in 2025.
The memo also describes a proposed modification of Administrative Order No. 9 related to the Professional Responsibility Program to drop the position of screening counsel. The history of the screening counsel position and the rationale for the change are described in the memo. Comments on the proposal are due to Mike Kennedy by Sept. 8.
The memo also includes the good news for judges and their communities that, starting in January, they will be authorized to participate in a volunteer fire department or rescue squad owing to an amendment of Rule 3.4 of the Vermont Code of Judicial Conduct.
