Vermont Law and Graduate School and the VBA have teamed up to present a two-hour CLE tomorrow (Oct. 17, 2023 from 10:30 to 12:30) on Business Associations with Prof. Oliver Goodenough. Professor Goodenough’s research and writing at the intersection of law, economics, finance, media, technology, neuroscience and behavioral biology make him an authority in several emerging areas of law. The Brown Bag Law Study program (BBLS) was inspired by the need to enhance learning opportunities for candidates in Vermont’s Law Office Study (LOS) program. These students are learning the law in an apprenticeship model. In most cases, LOS participants get detailed training in the areas of law in which their sponsor practices. It is unlikely, however, that most will get an introduction to, much less an actual course of study in, those areas in which the sponsor doesn’t practice.
In BBLS courses, volunteer presenters, all experienced practitioners, offer one or two zoom webinars each month focusing on key terminology and concepts that are fundamental to attorney competence and which form the basis for testing areas of the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). Note: because the bar exam doesn’t test Vermont local law, that will not be the subject of the courses offered.
While the programs are aimed at LOS students, they are also useful for licensed attorneys with gaps in their knowledge, or who need a refresher on fundamental principles in specific areas of law practice. Registration is open to all.
