Vermont Legal Aid (VLA) has announced today (May 1, 2026) that Alistair Deakin, Esq. will serve as its new Executive Director.
Deakin brings more than 25 years of experi
ence in civil legal services, nonprofit leadership, and public policy. He began his legal career with Atlanta Legal Aid Society, representing clients in housing, public benefits, and family matters—experience that continues to shape his commitment to access to justice.
He assumes leadership at a time of sustained demand for civil legal services in Vermont, particularly in housing, health care, and economic security. In his new role, Deakin will focus on expanding access to services statewide, strengthening organizational capacity, and deepening collaboration with the bench and bar. VLA works closely with Vermont attorneys through referrals, co-counseling, training, and pro bono opportunities.
