Robert “Bob” Paolini, Esq., executive director of the Vermont Bar Association, has announced his intention to retire later this year.
This will actually be Bob’s second retirement from the post. After practicing law in the Montpelier-Barre area and serving two terms in the Vermont House of Representatives. Bob first became Executive Director of the VBA in February 1996. He served in that role for 20 years, “retiring” in June 2016. He moved on to his own lobbying and consulting business but was called back to the VBA as interim director in July 2022, filling the vacancy left by Teri Corsones when she became State Court Administrator. Bob eventually agreed to take over the position as the regular full-time executive director. Now, however, Bob plans now to retire, for real.
Reflecting on his tenure at the VBA Bob Paolini said, “it has been an honor for me to work with and represent the members of the VBA and our profession. Looking back nearly 30 years, the VBA was a very different association. Much has changed and we’re in a very strong position going forward. Most of the credit for that belongs to the members of the board of managers, its officers and those who have stepped up as VBA presidents as well as the dedicated professional staff, half of whom have been here for 15 years or more. In addition to our leadership and staff, I want to thank all our section and division chairs for their guidance and help working on legislative initiatives, sharing their knowledge and expertise in developing CLEs. The VBA would not be able to carry out its mission without the input of so many of our members. My sincerest thanks to the staff, leadership and our members for making my tenure here as fulfilling and successful as it has been.”
VBA President Joshua Diamond expressed his appreciation for Bob Paolini. “On behalf of the VBA, I thank Bob for his many years of service and outstanding leadership to our organization and profession. Bob has helped strengthen the legal profession through years of steadfast stewardship of the VBA. Lawyers, clients, and the people of Vermont have benefitted from his advocacy to help the VBA further its mission of inclusion, foster respect for the rule of law, support equal access to justice, and provide essential resources to attorneys across the state. I would like to personally express my appreciation to Bob for his tutelage, guidance, and encouragement during my presidency.”
The Board of Managers has convened a search committee to select Bob’s replacement.
