VERMONT RULES OF CIVIL PROCEDURE
The Vermont Judiciary seeks a Reporter for the Vermont Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure. The Reporter must be an experienced individual committed to professional excellence in drafting, editing, and explaining procedural rules and have the administrative skills to support the Committee. The Reporter serves as a key professional advisor to the Civil Rules Committee in the exercise of the Court’s responsibility to adopt and amend Rules of Civil Procedure intended “to secure the just, speedy, and inexpensive determination of every action.” V.R.C.P. 1.
The Reporter drafts and revises proposed rules and recommended promulgation orders at the request of the Court or Committee. The Reporter implements best practices in drafting and editing those rules for fairness, clarity, readability, and consistency. The Reporter independently prepares Reporter’s Notes that are submitted and published with the promulgated rules to explain their history, meaning, and application.
In addition, the Reporter assists the Committee in scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, participating in meetings, drafting meeting minutes, testifying in the Legislature about rule changes, and preparing periodic reports of the Committee’s work.
