Assistant Attorney General, Agency of Digital Services
The Vermont Agency of Digital Services and the Attorney General’s Office seek an attorney to serve as the principal legal advisor to the Agency of Digital Services. The Agency, also known as ADS, oversees and provides Information Technology services across most of state government. ADS is led by a cabinet-level Secretary and includes several divisions, including Security, Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Project Management, Artificial Intelligence, Data Management, and Enterprise Services. Its mission is to deliver technology solutions within state government that improve the lives of Vermont’s citizens.
The candidate selected for this position will provide general counseling services directly to ADS. The successful candidate will serve as part of the ADS leadership team and advise on IT contracts and procurements, ADS policies and procedures, and legal requirements related to the Agency’s work.
This embedded Assistant Attorney General position is organizationally within the General Counsel and Administrative Law Division of the Attorney General’s Office, and physically located at ADS at 120 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont. Association with the Attorney General’s Office provides access to resources of the State’s largest law firm and a collegial legal environment. The position is supervised by the Chief of General Counsel and Administrative Law Division.
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or eligible to obtain admission by waiver. Candidates should have at least five years of legal experience, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Experience with Information Technology contracts, particularly SaaS/cloud-based services, is strongly preferred but not required.
This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan.
