Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster-Essay Contest for Middle School Students

The VBA Diversity Section and Young Lawyers Division are celebrating the life and message of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by co-sponsoring the 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster-Essay Contest. Participating middle school students will create a poster and write a short essay interpreting the quote: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice” from remarks Dr. King made regarding the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. Awards will be presented at a statehouse ceremony around the time of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, and the winning posters and essays will be displayed at the Vermont Supreme Court Building and honored in the Vermont Bar Journal.

The deadline for submissions is December 20, 2019. Please click HERE for the flyer, rules and entry form to be forwarded to any middle school aged students who might be interested in participating. Please feel free to check with middle schools in your area, to confirm that the students received these materials that the VBA sent to their principals.  Click HERE for additional resources about the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Dr. King’s quote. Thanks in advance for participating!
