The VBA Diversity Section and Young Lawyers Division are co-sponsoring the 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster-Essay Contest for Vermont Middle School Students, to celebrate the life and message of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participating middle school students will create a poster and write a short essay interpreting Dr. King’s quote “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” which first appeared in Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail.
Awards will be presented at a statehouse ceremony at around the time of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday in January 2022 (health rules at the statehouse permitting), and the winning posters and essays will be displayed at the Vermont Supreme Court Building and published in the Vermont Bar Journal.
The deadline for submissions is December 17, 2021. We’re trying to ensure distribution of the materials to all middle school students who might be interested in participating in the contest. Click this link: MLK Poster Essay Contest Flyer (2022) for the flyer, rules and entry form, if you would like to forward the materials to any middle school students you know who might be interested in participating. Please feel free to also check with middle schools in your area, to see if they received the materials (copies were recently sent to all principals for distribution). Thanks very much for your help in publicizing the contest!
