Students and Random Drug Screening The El Dorado, Kansas public schools have instituted a new policy that requires anyone participating in OR even simply attending extracurricular events to consent to random drug screening. The United States Supreme Court has said that school officials the authority to randomly screen participants in extracurricular activities, but this new policy extends to attendees. This eLesson will focus on the new policy, the Supreme Court case of Board of Education of Pottawatomie County v. Earls (2002), and the definition of unreasonable searches of public school students.
