Uniform Law Commission Concludes 116th Annual Meeting, by Richard T. Cassidy, Esq.

At its 116th Annual Meeting in Pasadena, California, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) approved four new acts dealing with issues ranging from the problems of resolving multi-sate jurisdictional disputes over adult guardianships to new rules addressing the timely issues of discovery of electronic information.

The summer clerkship is an integral part of thelaw school education. It provides stuidents with an opportunity to explore different areas of law and apply concepts from their 1L and 2L years to real world problems. Essentially, it is a hands-on learning experience that allows law students to expand their wealth of knowledge while also working with attorney mentors, who become invaluable contacts in the professional legal world.

Vermont, the Second Circuit, and the United States judicial system have losst a great man. The Honorable James L. Oakes, 83, died on Saturday, October 13, 2007, on Martha's Vineyard. Judge Oakes served on the federal bench for thirty-seven years, first in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont for a year, and then on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit for thirty-six. Judge Oakes also served Vermont as a state senator from Windham County and as Attorney General. His many friends and colleagues deeply mourn the loss.
